The term “mosaic“ has long tradition in architecture. Tessellation inlaying or inserteing of decorative materials of different colours into a surface were in the antic architecture very often.

The root of the word “mosaic“ comes from  the times when the formats of tessellation were tending to be made of oval stone from the river troughs. When made in the certain way with the applying different colours, we could get the different formats.

In the antic Rome where the mentioned way was used very often , these sorts of decorations were called “opus musivum“. Namely, these decorations were used in the public spaces dedicated to the muses or creativeness, culture and art.

The term “opus musivum“ is a creation that is inspired by creativeness during the history it changed the shape but the root and the meaning are still not changed.
